Monkey Beach

Megan Taylor a fiction writer, living in Nottingham. Her first novel, How We Were Lost was published by Flame Books in 2007. Megan is currently running an interactive blog story, as well as working on here next book.

Monkey_beach Set in the native village of Kitamaat, ‘Monkey Beach’ is an extraordinary, contemporary novel about growing up, family, identity and ghosts. Robinson’s voice is unique and visionary. She deals beautifully with loss, but remains unflinching in her depiction of violence and displacement.  And yet there is humour here too, and genuine shivers - an incredible sense of things whispering just below the surface. Hugely powerful and evocative, this stunning debut novel has haunted me for years. In fact I might have to go back and re-read it now.
